Common Problems with Door Locks
A door lock is probably the most common lock of all with everyone from homeowners to business owners relying on them to keep intruders out of their property and protecting their property. They vary in price from cheap systems to the more expensive high security lock systems, it all depends on your budget and how secure you need your property to be. While at the same time providing simple security against many forms of break-ins. They are commonly placed in newly built houses as opposed to the more expensive deadbolt locks. Many people prefer the cheaper systems because of the ease of installing them, the price and the fact they can be easily replaced if there is a fault.
Although the cheaper locking systems may cost a lot less and be easier to fit they can’t ever be made as secure as you might like because they are not designed to be high security, any locksmith would advise you of this. If they did end up making them as complex and hard to get into as they would like; the cost would be far too high. This is, of course, simply so that the consumer can afford to buy the locks in the first place. One of the common problems with the simple locking systems is that they can be easily bypassed by any intruder that knows how to pick locks. In fact the common bored cylindrical lock can be nothing but a mere annoyance to a skilled and determined burglar.
Another common issue with door locks is the fact they offer very little security against more simple attempts to unlock them. In some cases burglars have just cut a small hole in the door and unlocked it just by twisting certain mechanisms. Or when the door proved too tough to get through in a quiet manner if they had the skills they can pick a lock in a matter of minutes. More often than not a burglar that knows what he is doing will end up unlocking it and gaining free range of the house, store, or other establishment. This is due to the simple design by which a door lock is constructed. Another common issue is that door locks have a tendency to break or rust under certain conditions whereas other types of locks would function fine. The materials that most companies use to design the simple door lock are fairly inexpensive and easy to use. This is why they are so cheap, and why consumers are so eager to buy them in order to prevent extra spending.
